Cape Taft: First CO2-neutral voyage of a Panamax Tanker

SAG ships have been part of the Penfield Panamax Tanker Pool since 2013. This pool has now carried out a CO2-neutral voyage with a Panama tanker for the first time and Salamon is proud that Penfield nominated MT Cape Taft (built 2008) as the world’s first Panamax tanker for this purpose. The 74-day voyage took the ship from the Argentinian port of Arroyo Parejas to the port of Barbers Point/Hawaii. The CO2 released was offset by certificates to support 2 wind farms in Argentina and to support the REDD+ project in Brazil. REDD+ is a mechanism that proposes a set of actions to combat deforestation through social, climate and biodiversity activities that contribute to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and conserving forest carbon stocks, sustainable forest management and increasing forest carbon stocks.
