Salamon AG was founded in 2002 by Christian Salamon, who had previously worked for nine years for a Dortmund-based initiator of real estate funds and ship investments. The company was very successful from the outset: its first ship was a large Suezmax-class tanker with an investment volume of over 60 million US dollars. With sound judgement, courage, good advisors, restraint and perseverance, the company navigated through what were at times very difficult times for the shipping industry. This included a willingness to provide financial support to its own fund companies on several occasions. Of the more than 50 KG shipping fund initiators in 2008, only a few remain. Today, Salamon AG is one of the few maritime asset management companies in Germany that has successfully weathered the major and ongoing shipping crisis since 2008.
